Visit Report: Samuel Ukwuachu
Pearland HS DE Samuel Ukwuachu (Pearland, TX) took his official visit to Boise State two weeks ago as he watched the Broncos improve to 5-0 on the season with a 57-14 victory over Toledo. This was Ukwuachu's first visit to Boise so it was important for him to get a good feel for the campus and the place he'll call home for the next four or five years. What are thoughts on the visit? "It was a good visit. There's a lot of nice people up there," he said. "It's not as big as Houston, but there's a lot of outdoor things to do. Overall, it was just an all-around good place," he added. The Bronco defense dominated the Toledo offense from start to finish. They forced five turnovers and recorded multiple sacks as they held the Rockets to just 287 total yards. Needless to say, the future Bronco liked what he saw on The Blue. "Man, they are dogs," he said in reference to the Bronco defense. "They play hard, fast, and they get to the ball. They're really physical." In terms of recruiting, Boise State has built a strong Texas pipeline in recent years. Much of that can be attributed to (Assistant Head Coach) Brent Pease and his connections throughout the Lone Star State. Boise State currently has four Texans verbally committed for the 2011 class and Ukwuachu sees that as a major selling point. "That's real cool that there's three other Texans," he stated. "It makes me feel comfortable knowing that there are others that came from my situation." Samuel (6'5, 205, 4.57) and his teammates are currently 8-0 this season. Pearland lost in the first round of the state playoffs in 2009 and that added motivation has only made them work harder. "We've had a pretty solid season," he said. "Other teams have been double-teaming me all year." How often do you find a DE that also happens to play WR? Not too often. The level of versatility and athleticism needed to be a combo-DE/WR is just something you don't see every day. "I have good upper-body strength and my quickness can help me off the ball," he said. "My height really gets me up there. I bring good intensity and I'm an all-around good athlete," he added. Ukwuachu has 3 sacks and 25 tackles through eight games this season. On offense, he has 8 receptions for 129 yards and 2 TDs. BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Samuel Ukwuachu.
