Hayden Plinke: 'I knew right away'
Glencoe HS TE Hayden Plinke (Hillsboro, OR) committed to Boise State a little over two weeks ago and is expected to grayshirt as he will enroll at Boise State in January of 2012. Plinke got that long-awaited offer following an official visit to The Blue and committed on the spot. "I'll be a grayshirt," he said. "I went on an official visit and Coach Petersen offered me. I knew right away I wanted to go there and be a part of their program," he added. Plinke only spent about an hour with Head Coach Chris Petersen, but the two time Bear Bryant Award Winner made an immediate impact on the future Bronco. "I met Coach Petersen for about an hour or so and he already feels like a father figure," he stated. "He cares about his players and the bond he has created in the program is amazing. He told me they don't care about stars and are looking for guys with good character and work ethic. They want guys they can mold into great players." Hayden attended the Boise State Football Camp last summer and the coaching staff continued to keep tabs on him as he progressed through his senior season. TEs Coach Scott Huff decided to attend a Glencoe game to get a good look at Plinke and he came away impressed with what he saw on the field. "Coach Huff saw me at the camp and already knew I could catch and run," Plinke said. "He came to one of my games to see if I had that nastiness to block a guy on the line of scrimmage. They decided to bring me in on a visit after that and he told me he likes how I give 100% on the field." The Glencoe Crimson Tide wrapped up the 2010 season with a 6-4 record. The Glencoe offense focuses heavily on the running game and they utilized Plinke in both the passing and running attack. "I had like 500 yards receiving, 250 yards rushing, and 6 TDs," he said. "I felt I really improved a lot this season. I really wanted to capitalize on my blocking and get better at that. I was voted team captain and most inspirational too. I just wanted to help our guys get better." In short, to be able to play college football at Boise State is a dream come true for Plinke. "I like how Boise State has different values than the other schools," he said. "Boise State isn't just a place you go for four years...it's forty years," he added. Hayden Plinke (6'4, 230, 4.65) also held offers from Eastern Washington, Portland State, and Air Force. BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Hayden Plinke.
