Bishop Kelly ATH Cody McCarthy (Boise, ID) had a tough decision to make...either sign with Eastern Washington or take a preferred walk-on offer from Boise State. In the end, he decided a full-ride scholarship was just too much to pass up.

"I've made my decision. I called Coach Choate today and told him my family doesn't have the money to go to Boise State," he said. "I know Eastern is D1-AA, but they're the National Champions and this is a great opportunity for me. I'm looking forward to it," he added.

Cody says he didn't get much sleep the past few days, but he had to do what's best for his family.

"I lost a lot of sleep since I always dreamed of playing at Boise State," he stated. "It just can't happen if you can't foot the bill. Eastern is no slouch of a program either. They'd be in the WAC right now if it wasn't for them electing to stay down."

McCarthy will play LB and FB at Eastern. He will also have the opportunity to earn playing time as a freshman.

"I'll play LB at Eastern and I'm going to be a third down, goal line back too," he said. "I'm going to play as a freshman as well. You know, I can see they really want me. That means a lot."

As a senior, McCarthy was named First Team All-State and Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Idaho. He says the awards are nice, but getting the "W" is all that really matters.

"They're good awards, but I'm moving on and I'm going to take care of business at Eastern," he said. "Winning is all that really matters to me. I don't play football for awards. I play football for football."

In 2010, McCarthy had 177 tackles, 10 sacks, 4 INTs, and 9 forced fumbles on defense. On offense, he rushed for 603 yards and 7 TDs.
