Branham HS OL Adam Sheffield
(San Jose, CA) signed with Boise State
as a member of the 2011 recruiting class back in February and is working hard in preparation for his arrival on campus this summer. How are the workouts going?
"I'm getting stronger and getting ready for Boise," he said. "The workout plan is really helping me improve. Right now, I'm just looking forward to getting to work and bringing a National Championship to Boise."
"Basically, it goes from week 1-8," he stated. "For example, I lift on Monday, do some upper-body exercises, and then I go run after that. In general, the drills are mainly to get you conditioned and just get you ready. It's effective and was a challenge when I first got it."
Sheffield's weight was right around 300 when he last spoke to BroncoCountry a couple months ago. He's now at 290 and says the conditioning program has allowed him to lose some of that "baby fat."
"I'm 290 right now. I lost about 10 pounds of baby fat," he said. "I can definitely see a difference in my body and overall strength. Right now, they really just want me to maintain this weight and then get in even better shape once I get on campus."
The talented O-lineman will be in attendance at the Spring Game next Saturday. He says he'll pay close attention to the O-line and take some "mental reps."
"I spoke to Coach Strausser last week. We're going up there for the Spring Game," said Sheffield. "It's going to be cool so I can see how they mentally prepare and what I need to do to get up to their level. I'll take some mental reps and watch how Coach Strausser coaches the players. I know the speed of the game will be an adjustment for me since it's a big jump from HS to college."
Looking back, Sheffield (6'5, 290) says the recruiting process was a "humbling" experience.
"It humbled me," he said in regards to the recruiting process. "It's a blessing to be able to play Division I football since so many don't get the opportunity to do that. Overall, I'd say it was a great experience and I'm just happy to have the opportunity to go to a great program like Boise State."
Sheffield says Bronco fans can expect him to work hard and leave it all on the field.
"I really want to win and I know you have to elevate your game so much more at Boise State," he said. "My goal is to just do my best and do anything I can to help the team," he added.
