Corral Conversations: Malcolm Holland
Hamilton HS ATH Malcolm Holland (Chandler, AZ) signed with Boise State as a member of the 2011 recruiting class back in February and is eager to begin his career on The Blue. The talented ATH is finishing up baseball season right now, but will be turning his full attention to football in just a week or two. "I'm playing baseball right now," he said. "We're heading to the state semifinals since we won 3-2 yesterday. I got a walk-off single to win it in the bottom of the seventh, so I'm pretty excited." "I'll be turning my full attention to football as soon as baseball season is done," he stated. "I'm trying to go workout at the gym two times a week. Conditioning wise, me and my dad go run as much as possible. The best thing I can do to prepare myself for Boise is to go up there in-shape. It'll be how bad I want it and how hard I work after that." Malcolm had a visitor a little earlier this week as (TEs) Coach Scott Huff dropped by Hamilton HS to say "hey" and check-out a few of the underclassmen on the football field. "Coach Huff came by on Monday. He was down here checking out a couple of recruits and came by the baseball field," said Holland. "He talked about how he played baseball growing up and misses it a lot now. It's always good to talk to Coach Huff since he's an Arizona guy as well." Holland was a "late" signee, but he certainly won't be a "late" arrival. The future Bronco will arrive in Boise for summer workouts in late-June and get a jumpstart on his college career. "I'm going up there on June 27th," he said. "I replay the first day I get there in my mind all the time. My goal is to get in there and bond with the other guys in my class. I want to start it off with a bang and start it off right. I definitely want to make a good impression on them." "It's been my dream to play college football," he said. "I think about it all the time. I'm just glad I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream. It all comes down to how bad I want it and how hard I'm willing to work. That's the mind-set that I'm going to have." Will Holland (5'10, 160) play as a freshman? Or redshirt? "Coach Petersen told me it's all up to me," he said. "It all comes down to how quick I can pick-up the plays on defense and everything. I'll probably play if I pick it up quickly. If not, I'll redshirt." BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Malcolm Holland.
