Corral Conversations: Lee Hightower
"I was up there for the Spring Game," he said. "What I liked most was the game-like atmosphere at the stadium. I've been to the local ones here at UCLA or USC, but the atmosphere was much better up in Boise. I thought it was much more exciting."
"It was great being able to hangout with Jay (Ajayi), Jeff (Worthy), Eric (Agbaroji), and Sam (Ukwuachu)," he stated. "It was really nice to be able to see them in person. Now we'll be that much more ahead when we get there since we already know each other."
"I actually spoke to Coach Petersen just a couple days ago," said Hightower. "It's funny, I met his cousin a few days ago. Apparently, she has a son that runs track too. We talked about how it's such a small world. Coach Yates also dropped by on Tuesday. He said 'hey' but was mostly there to talk to the coaching staff about the younger guys, like Chaz (Anderson).
Looking back, Hightower says the family atmosphere within the program played a pivotal role in his decision to become a Bronco.
"There were two things that made Boise State stand out. The closeness of all the guys and the coaching staff," he said. "All the players get along real well and I felt that on my official. Also, Coach Petersen has instilled a family aspect within the team and that's something I was looking for."
Hightower (6'2, 188) is competing at the state championships in track, but says football will be his main focus as soon as track season is wrapped up. He'll arrive in Boise for summer workouts in late-June.
"I'm coming up on June 25th," he said. "I'm really excited. Honestly, I'm ready to go now. I've been talking to a lot of guys from Loyola that are playing college football now and they all told me to manage my time. I know I've got to get a good grasp of it and be able to do that."
What can Bronco fans expect to see from Lee Hightower?
"Just a guy that attacks the ball at all times," he said. "I've got a good feel for the game and I'm working to improve the technical aspect of it as well," he added.
