Top Florida QB Commits To Boise State
Dr. Phillips HS QB Nick Patti (Orlando, FL) became Boise State's second verbal commitment for the 2012 recruiting class on Thursday when he chose to end his recruitment and become a Bronco. What set Boise State apart from the other schools? "All the other offers were great, but this one was just different," he said. "I was thinking about it last week and just felt it was right to go ahead and pull the trigger. I'm just glad now I can focus on my senior season." "I committed on Thursday evening," he stated. "I told Coach Pease and he ran down the hallway to hand the phone to Coach Pete. Coach Pete just started yelling when I told him. It made me feel real good. It was just an awesome moment." "There's just so much excitement around the program right now," said Patti. "They were going to remain my best option no matter what because it's a great fit for me. I think I would have had offers from UCLA, Tennessee, Kentucky, and a couple others had I waited two or three more weeks. This one just felt right for me." Patti says playing for Head Coach Chris Petersen will be "easy." Why? Because the talented QB says he's the type of coach you want to go "all-out" for in each and every game. "Playing for Coach Pete will be easy because he's the type of guy you want to battle for," he said. "It's going to be so easy to want to go out there and play for him. You always know he has your back so you want to be able to give that back in return. He's just a great guy." A second trip to Boise is currently in the works. A second trip will allow Nick's mom to meet the coaching staff, checkout the campus, and see where her son will be spending the next four or five years of his life. "This second visit will be for my mom. I was already trying to plan this trip even before I committed," he said. "Ideally, I'd like for it to be in late June or early July. My dad is already on-board 100%, so everything will be final after that." Patti and his teammates at Dr. Phillips made it to the State Championship Game in 2010, but fell a little short. The future Bronco says it's "state or bust" going into 2011 and it's up to the younger guys to buy-in with the program. "It's state or bust," he said. "We're trying to press that into these younger guys. We need them to buy-in to that mentality. We had no missing links last year and we've got none this year either. There's no reason why we can't win a title." What about graduating early? Is that a possibility? According to Patti, it's already in the works. "I'm meeting with my guidance counselor tomorrow morning to see what I have to do to graduate early," he said. "As of now, I think I'll be able to do it," he added. As a senior, Patti (5'11, 185, 4.5) had 2,890 yards passing and 37 TDs. He also had 600 rushing yards. Nick Patti chose Boise State over offers from Middle Tennessee State, USF, UCF, Indiana, Louisiana Tech, and strong interest from Kentucky, UCLA, and Tennessee. BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Nick Patti.
