Dr. Phillips HS QB Nick Patti
(Orlando, FL) committed to Boise State
just a couple weeks ago and is currently working hard in preparation for what could be an outstanding senior season this fall. He and his teammates wrapped up spring practice this week as they gear up for another state title run. By all accounts, spring ball was a rousing success at Dr. Phillips and expectations remain higher than ever.
"Spring ball has been great," he said. "We've made huge strides as far as the guys we've needed to come along, the younger guys. It was a question of if they'd understand the role they have to play or would just be busts. I'd say the guys who needed to step up have done that and we've got the ball rolling now."
"Overall, I think I had a good spring," he stated. "The one thing for me was just getting better physically and the coaches have helped me with that. I really wanted to unite this team and bring these younger guys along. You know, get in the film room, learn stuff, and show them how it's done. I wanted that leadership role to be my position."
"Coach Pease was down here on Monday," said Patti. "I spoke to Coach Pete on Sunday and still speak to them quite a lot. Basically, me and Coach Pete were just catching up and talking about everything. As of now, it looks like we're going to try to get out there for another visit in late June."
Recently, rumors have surfaced that Patti (5'11, 185, 4.5) may be on the verge of receiving a handful of SEC offers, including Tennessee
. He thinks a few schools might be close to offering, but his commitment to Boise State is solid.
"I think I'm close to a couple SEC offers. I'd say Tennessee and Kentucky
are the closest right now," he said. "I understand that schools have taken a tentative approach towards me due to my size and everything, but that's what I like about Boise State. They didn't care about that."
"The only thing that could really change my commitment would be Coach Pete or Coach Pease not being at Boise State," said Patti. "I'd weigh my options if they were to leave, but I'm 100% as long as they are there and that won't change."
"It's all about having a sense of loyalty," he said. "I've got a strong sense of that towards them and that's a huge part of the recruiting process. They told me I was their #1 guy and that's why I decided to commit so early."
The talented QB says his goal is to graduate early and enroll at Boise State in January 2012. As of now, that appears to be the plan.
"I'll be taking on-line classes this summer," he said. "As of now, I should be able to get out there early. I think it's a great idea and you see more and more guys doing it every year. 90% of playing QB is knowing where you're going with the ball and everything. It would benefit me greatly to get that head-start."
