SoCal QB On Boise State Radar
St. Bonaventure HS QB Marc Evans (Ventura, CA) is still looking for that first offer, but a handful of schools have made the trip to Southern California to watch and evaluate the talented QB. Boise State will send a coach down to Ventura this week to watch Evans throw and workout. "I'd say Oregon State and Boise State have been showing the most interest," he said. "Washington State, UCLA, and Bowling Green have also been showing some interest," he added. "They're (Boise State) sending the QB Coach down on Wednesday to watch me throw," he stated. "Boise State has been recruiting me for a while. I last spoke to one of their coaches about two weeks ago. We mostly talked about setting up a day for them to come down and watch me throw and also about me going up to the camp." "Honestly, I don't know a whole lot about Boise State, but I'm excited about going to their camp," said Evans. "I'm going to go out there, check it out, and see how I like it." Evans says the educational aspect will be one of the main factors when it comes to making a college decision. "The main thing for me is the education. That's real important to me," he said. "I'd also say the atmosphere is another thing and just if I like the place or not. That'll be big too." Oregon State sent four coaches down to Ventura about a week ago and Boise State appears to be showing some strong interest, but the important thing for Evans is simply getting that first offer. "I'm just being patient with it right now. I'm hoping that first offer will come soon," said Evans. "I plan on taking as many visits as possible so I can make the right decision for me. That's going to be important." The standout QB has a busy summer ahead and will camp at a number of schools. "I'll camp at Boise State, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington State, Notre Dame, USC, and San Jose State," he said. "It'll be a crazy summer, but an exciting one as well. As soon as I get back from one camp, I'll have to gear up for another. I'm just looking to get my name out there." In 2010, Evans and his teammates at St. Bonaventure finished the season with a strong record of 11-2. In 2011, they hope to take it up a notch and compete for a CIF Title. "Last year was a successful season, but we could've won the whole thing," he said. "The goal is to definitely win a CIF Title this year. I think that's within our reach and from there maybe we can make it to state." What does Evans (6'3, 204) bring to the gridiron? "I'd say I'm more of a pocket-guy, but I can also escape and do it on the run," he said. "One thing I do well is keep my eyes down-field and look for that open guy," he added. As a junior, Evans threw for 2,412 yards and 30 TDs. BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Marc Evans.
