Upland HS K Jake Van Ginkel (Upland, CA) committed to Boise State just a couple weeks ago and was on…
Corral Conversations: Jake Van Ginkel
"Usually, I go out and kick on Saturdays and I train with some of the younger guys at the HS," he said. "I'd say it's going well. It's nice to get out there and kick."
"I'd say I attempt around 40-50 FGs and make around 40 of them," he stated. "I try not to miss too much out there since they're HS posts. I try to narrow it down and get inside those."
"I've still got some things to work on," said Van Ginkel. "It's a whole different ball-game in college. The goal posts are much more narrow and the hash marks are different too."
Van Ginkel (6'1, 180) has a reputation for being clutch and it's well-earned. He says it's all in the mind-set and each kick has to be the same no matter what the score is.
"The pressure is always there no matter what," he said. "The key is going out there with the same mind-set whether it's a PAT or a 55 yard FG. You have to focus on it. It needs to be the same kick every time."
The future Bronco will arrive in Boise on June 26th and enroll in the Bridge Program at Boise State.
"I'll be up on June 26th," he said. "I'm doing the Bridge Program," he added.
"I'm excited to get up there," said Van Ginkel. "I can't wait to fight for that spot. I think I have a good chance at the starter's job and that makes me want to work that much harder."
