Visit Report: Ben Weaver
Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) verbally committed to Boise State back in June and was in Boise State last weekend for his official visit. The talented LB told BroncoCountry when he committed that he couldn't wait to see the game-day atmosphere at Bronco Stadium. What did he think of the visit and the atmosphere? "The atmosphere was awesome. I think that stood out most to me," he said. "I went up there for an unofficial over the summer and got a chance to speak to the players and coaches, but the game-day atmosphere was just awesome. They do a lot of unique things with the color scheme in the crowd, the hammer, and it was just really cool to see." "I had a meeting with Coach Gregory," he stated. "Basically, we went over what the practices are like, where I'll be playing, the different schemes they run, and what they look for in a player. I like that he's not a screamer, but someone who will help you get better. He wants you to exceed your own expectations. A lot of the players told me the coaches make you work hard, but they're not the type that will just yell at you." "My parents love Coach Petersen," said Weaver. "He talked about the principles in a team, what they look for in a player, and the APR. He said they don't necessarily look for the number one player, but rather the right fit for the team. He also went over the pyramid and how he meets with the freshmen throughout the first year. He kind of teaches a class about the pyramid and how it builds you as a player and person." Bronco Nation also did their part on Saturday. Weaver says he was impressed with the fan turnout. "It was 11 in the morning and the parking lots were starting to fill up," he said. "They're like an NFL team up there and everyone loves them. It was super loud at the game." "They were playing extremely good until Kellen Moore came out in the second half," said Weaver. "I think having Moore out there helps the defense as well. It allows them more time to rest. The drives were shorter after he came out of the game, so that probably contributed to the defense giving up a couple TDs." Weaver (6'1, 225) and his teammates are currently 3-1 on the season. He says he's happy with his performance thus far. "I think I'm doing pretty good right now," he said. "I'm the leading tackler on the team. I've got 40 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries right now. It still comes down to winning and losing, but I think I'm having a good season so far." BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Ben Weaver.
