Steele Canyon HS ATH Chanceller James (Spring Valley, CA) verbally committed to Boise State just a month ago and has been paying close attention to the recent news on conference expansion. The future Bronco is on-board with the idea of Boise State heading to the Big East and is quite excited about the possibilities that go along with it.

"It would be pretty cool," he said. "I think right now Boise State gets downplayed because of the schedule," he added.

"I heard the Big East was going to invite them," he stated. "I'm going to ask them (coaches) about that this week when I talk to them. I'm on-board with what's best for Boise State. I think it would be a good move."

Looking back, the "family atmosphere" at Boise State paid dividends once again in Chanceller's decision to become a Bronco.

"It was the family atmosphere," he said. "Just knowing that all of those guys up there have my back is big."

James (6'2, 190) spoke to DBs Coach Marcel Yates and Head Coach Chris Petersen just last week.

"I spoke to Coach Yates and Coach Petersen last week," said James. "Me and Coach Yates are big Raider fans so we mostly talked about that. He also gave me some tips about being a good DB and to just keep trying to get better. With Coach Petersen, he was just checking in to see how I was doing."

"They're all really cool guys," he said. "I think I can come in and fit with their scheme. I'm excited to learn from them."

The talented ATH and his teammates are 4-2 through six games. They got off to a slow start, but are making solid progress as the season rolls on.

"We're getting better and better each week. That's important," he said. "Personally, I think I'm doing pretty well on offense. On defense, I got to force more turnovers."

"I've dropped a couple picks," said James. "I only have 1 INT right now, but a whole lot of pass breakups. I think I've got about 40 tackles right now."

Boise State racked up a total of 742 yards of offense against Colorado State on Saturday. The future Bronco jokingly said that he sure wouldn't mind playing on offense after watching that performance.

"Hey, I'll play on offense if they want me to," he said with a laugh. "Man, they just dominated Colorado State in that game."

And the Bronco defense? He says it's a good fit for what he does best.

"Yeah, I'm an aggressive player," he said. "I don't shy away from hits at all. I think I'll fit right in."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Chanceller James.
