Boise State Commit Is A Wanted Man
Americas HS RB Jack Fields (El Paso, TX) verbally committed to Boise State back in June and is also a wanted man as schools continue to recruit him. The future Bronco has been a one man wrecking crew on offense as he averages 25+ carries per game and 9+ yards per carry. Those are video game numbers, but the talented RB has a solid team mentality and only care about the scoreboard. "The team is doing pretty well. We're 6-2 right now," he said. "I'd say we're just focused on winning these next few games and heading to the playoffs. We need to finish strong." "It's definitely important to finish strong," he stated. "It's big for team morale and shows that we can compete with those bigger schools and the so-called powerhouses." "I feel I'm doing pretty well right now," he said. "My biggest improvement during my senior year has been catching the ball and running strong every single game," he added. Stats? The future Bronco says the only thing that matters is the scoreboard. That team mentality was instilled in him by his father, a preacher and former military man. "Team mentality definitely starts with my parents," said Fields. "Being in the military, my dad was all about taking care of his brothers. The personal things and accolades will come if I take care of my job and the opportunities that are presented to me. It starts with taking care of my brothers." Oregon and a number of other schools have been showing some aggressive interest in Fields over the past month, including an offer from Oregon who went so far as to send a coach to watch Fields play. Jack says he isn't "big" on bringing attention to himself and remains 100% committed to Boise State. "A few schools are still trying to recruit me," he said. "I just tell those teams that I'm 100% committed to Boise. I'm not into that whole deal with bringing attention to myself and leading others on. I made my decision to commit to Boise State and that's where I'm going to play at." "I've spoken to Coach B a couple times over the past few days," said Fields. "He'll be at the game tomorrow to watch me play. It's definitely a great honor for Boise State to send someone down to watch me. I think I'd feel a little bit of pressure if this was earlier in my career, but I've gotten used to recruiters and things like that now. I'm just going to try to keep my composure, run hard, and let those plays come." The depth chart at RB is wide open heading into 2012, but Jack says the winning tradition was the biggest factor when he made the decision to commit to Boise State. "In the beginning, it was all about the tradition," he said. "Knowing that there's early playing time just makes you feel good about the situation. I know college will be different and much more difficult, but I'm going to go down there and work as hard as I can." The Broncos have a BYE this week, but are sitting at #4 in the BCS Standings. Jack says his family has been keeping close tabs on that. "My family and friends remind me of that all the time," he said with a laugh. "They especially do since Alabama and LSU have to play each other. It's definitely a really good deal for Boise State. I can only imagine the anticipation and how crazy the fans would be coming off a championship like that." Being a preacher and former military man, Mr. Fields is a good judge of character. Jack (5'10, 190, 4.53) says his dad felt the most comfortable with the coaching staff at Boise State. In the end, that may have sealed the deal. "Out of all the schools I visited...he felt the most comfortable with the coaching staff at Boise," he said. "It was the way they interact with the players, their character, and the fact that Boise State recruits stand-up guys that don't get in trouble. They were honest throughout the process and I can tell Coach Petersen is a really great man." BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Jack Fields.
