Future Bronco Gears Up For Championship Game

Summit HS CB Donte Deayon (Fontana, CA) verbally committed to Boise State over the summer and is currently gearing up for the CIF Championship Game against Heritage. The future Bronco has been a playmaker on both sides of the ball, dominating on both offense and defense. He spoke to BroncoCountry.com about the upcoming championship game and his future as a Bronco.

Summit HS CB Donte Deayon (Fontana, CA) verbally committed to Boise State over the summer and is currently gearing up for the CIF Championship Game against Heritage. The future Bronco has been a playmaker on both sides of the ball, dominating on both offense and defense.

"We got the championship game against Heritage this Saturday," he said. "We won our league and now we're going to try win that CIF Championship," he added. (Deayon and Summit held off Heritage for a 24-17 win)

"We're 12-1," he stated. "We lost in the championship game last year, so we're hoping to win it this year. The season has been great. I've got my last game coming up and I've been playing with these guys for four years. Everyone is performing well right now."

"We got to get going early against Heritage," said Deayon. "We can win as long as go out there and play our hardest and our best. I don't think anyone can beat us as long as we play to our ability."

The future Bronco also got a visit from (DBs Coach) Marcel Yates and (RBs Coach) Keith Bhonapha on Thursday afternoon.

"Coach Yates and Coach Bhonapha came to my school," he said. "We sat down, talked, and stuff like that. They also got to meet my mom for the first time, so that was really nice."

"It was a real great experience," said Deayon. "I enjoy talking to them and getting a feel for their personalities. They let me know what I'll have to deal with in Boise and also that I'll need to eat right and lift before going up there."

"I'm 100% committed."

Deayon will play CB at Boise State, but the talented athlete has made a big statement on offense this year as well. He has 27 TDs combined while splitting time at RB and WR.

"Coach Bhonapha joked a bit about getting me over with the RBs," he said with a laugh. "Playing on both sides of the ball really starts over the summer. You do a lot of conditioning, 7-on-7 stuff, wind sprints, and stuff like that to prepare your body for the season. I run and go as hard as I can out there. It's all about the conditioning."

"Boise wants me at CB and then some returns as well."

On defense, Deayon (5'9, 160) has been steady while hauling in 4 INTs and being that "lock-down" CB for the Summit defense.

"They don't throw the ball to my side much," he said. "My job back there is to make sure all the players on defense are on the same page and that we make the right check. We'll be fine as long as we're on the same page. I just try to make sure that everyone is doing the right thing."

"I just try to get what I can back there."

And the move to the Big East?

"That'll be a great experience," he said. "Now we're combining East and West. That will be different, but fun as well. To be able to finally get that BCS bid is a good thing."
