Sheldon HS DE Sam McCaskill (Eugene, OR) garnered First Team All-State honors following the 2011 season as he racked up 15 sacks and 115 tackles, leading the state in both categories. He flew under the radar for much of the recruiting season, but picked up a grayshirt offer from Oregon State last weekend and Boise State then extended an offer on Thursday evening. He took an official visit to The Blue over the weekend and committed to Boise State on Monday morning.

"I called Coach Petersen right after I woke up this morning and committed," he said. "He was just as thrilled as I was and was in a staff meeting at the time. He held up the phone and you could hear all the coaches yelling in the background. It was cool."

"Coach Petersen, Coach Kwiatkowski, and Coach Gregory all came by on Thursday," he stated. "It was a very nice surprise. They ended up taking a private jet and stopping by on their way back from Texas. They just answered some of our general questions, talked about the philosophy of the football program, and then we sat down for dinner. We also talked about family stuff and right before they left Coach Petersen said the biggest reason they were coming was to offer me a full scholarship. To hear it coming from him was pretty amazing."

"I got to Boise on Friday afternoon," McCaskill said. "We went through a school meeting, saw the blue turf, got to meet all of the coaches, and you really see why they have so much success over there. It's just a great group of coaches."

The future Bronco had a meeting with Head Coach Chris Petersen just before leaving campus.

"I had a meeting with Coach Petersen right before we left," he said. "He gave me my NLOI and he's just truly a tremendous guy. He's been so good to my family. Everyone knows he's a great football coach, but a lot of people don't realize that he's a tremendous person too."

"I'm a Bronco," he said. "I'm 100% committed," he added.

McCaskill plays with relentless effort and says the coaching staff likes his hard work and dedication.

"My effort and just the type of person I am," he said. "I pride myself on going 100% on every play. I'm always prepared and I'm willing to work as hard as I have to."

"I'll be a DE/LB-hybrid," said McCaskill. "They kind of related me to Shea McClellin. I can only hope to have a career like him. He'll be great in the NFL. I hope one day I'll be able to really compare myself to him."

So, what can Bronco fans expect to see from Sam McCaskill?

"A player that gives his all," he said. "I will give great effort and will always be prepared," he added.

He chose Boise State over offers from Oregon State, Montana, and Portland State.
