Summit HS CB Donte Deayon (Fontana, CA) signed with Boise State as a member of the 2012 recruiting class just two weeks ago, but did so without having spoken to (new DB Coach) Jimmy Lake. Lake comes to Boise State from the NFL where he coached the DBs for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and appears to be a "big hit" with the future Bronco.

"I spoke to Coach Lake for a good 25-30 minutes," he said. "It was good to finally talk to him. I know he had to take that NCAA test first and he told me he was studying real hard for it."

"It sounds like he'll be a great coach to be coached by," he stated. "He gave me some background information and the next time we talk we're going to talk more about what he expects of his corners and things like that."

"I feel that Coach Pete brought in a great coach," said Deayon. "Coach Yates and Coach Lake both bring that knowledge of the NFL. Coach Yates knew how to get his DBs to that level, but Coach Lake also has that actual experience at the next level. It'll be great."

Deayon also spoke to Head Coach Chris Petersen on Monday afternoon and the main topic of conversation was simply "keep working."

"I spoke to Coach Pete today," he said. "I was just letting him know what I was up to, working out, and things like that. I got my workout packet. It breaks down everything pretty good. He just told me to keep working and stay on top of everything. He wants to make this an easy transition for me when I get there and wants me to be ready to work hard."

"I'm running track and lifting weights," he said. "Everything is going pretty good right now," he added.

Donte and his teammates had but one goal heading into the 2011 season...win a CIF Championship. They were coming off a loss in the championship game just a year earlier and used that as motivation all off-season. They succeeded and brought home that CIF Championship, but it's the character building along the way that Deayon will remember most.

"I'm going to take more from it than just the winning," said Deayon. "It's the character building along the way that got us there. We harped on being good people all off-season and knew the wins would come as long as we did that."

Signing Day was a big day for Donte Deayon and he says he has never experienced anything like it before.

"I had never experienced anything like that before," he said. "I faxed in my letter that morning, went to breakfast, went to school, had a little ceremony, and we took a lot of pictures. All of our family and friends were there. It was really a lot of fun."

"Now I'm just ready to get to Boise and get to work."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Donte Deayon.
