Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) verbally committed to Boise State over the summer, but an offer…
Ben Weaver: 'It Was The Right Fit'
Klein HS LB Ben Weaver (Klein, TX) signed with Boise State as a member of the 2012 recruiting class last month, but it was anything but easy as the Broncos found themselves in a late recruiting battle against the home-state Aggies of Texas A&M. A late A&M offer made Weaver pause for a moment, but he says Boise State was simply the "right fit." "It was the right fit," he said. "It was definitely a hard decision since A&M was a school I was thinking about early on, but every time I looked at it the for sure answer was Boise State. There was really nothing going for A&M other than emotion." "My chances of playing early (at Boise State) is one of the top reasons," he stated. "In general, just the coaches and their passion for the game. The win percentage is great, but the coaches want you to be the best person you can be. It's not just the winning. Also, the weather will obviously be a nice change too. I like that it won't be nearly as hot or humid." "I'm excited to play for both Coach Gregory and Coach Petersen," said Weaver. "We've been able to build that relationship and the opportunity that they're giving me is incredible. I'm very anxious to play for both of them." Weaver has now turned his attention to preparing for his summer arrival at Boise State with the recruiting process now in the rearview mirror. "I have a personal trainer," he said. "I workout in the morning for four days a week from the packet they gave us and then workout with my personal trainer after school for five days a week," he added. "The results have been incredible," said Weaver. "We started about two months ago and I was able to increase my squats by 100 in a month, bench increased by 50. I hope to keep doing this twice a day for the next three months. I know this will give me the best opportunity to play next year." "I also do some agility work with my trainer," he said. "We do things like sprints, runs, ladders, and exercises like that. I'm not one that loves to run, but I don't mind doing sprints." Could Ben Weaver (6'1, 232) be the next Byron Hout? Throughout the recruiting process, the Bronco coaching staff believed the two compared quite nicely. "I'm a real downhill 'backer, losing Byron Hout, they told me they don't have that spot filled for next year," he said. "Me being that type of LB makes me a good fit and I guess they saw that in me. Coach Gregory said he likes that I finish plays and he needs that in a LB." "You don't want playing time just handed to you," he said. "I have to do my part, learn the plays, and finish it. They are giving me that opportunity and now it's up to me." Like Christopher Santini, the future Bronco says he's eager to arrive in Boise and get to work. "I'm excited to be around that winning atmosphere," he said. "It's going to take a lot of hard work, but I'm ready for that," he added. BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Ben Weaver.
