Timberline HS WR Jackson Reed (Boise, ID) is the latest homegrown recruit to declare that he will walk-on at Boise State under preferred walk-on status. Reed had an offer from Carroll College and received interest from Idaho State, but the lifelong Bronco fan decided that the Blue and Orange was just too much to pass up.

"Yeah, I'm going to walk-on at Boise State," he said. "I got the offer a couple days before Signing Day," he added.

"Me and my parents discussed the possibility of playing at Carroll," he stated. "Me and Coach Prince emailed each other back and forth a few times, told him we were trying to decide, and that's when he said for me to call him. So, he said they can offer me a preferred walk-on spot right now."

"I grew up a Boise State fan," said Reed. "It's going to be an amazing experience to just play at Boise State, but a lot of walk-on's have had a lot of success over the years. That makes it that much more exciting. During basketball, my dad said he thinks I'm still excelling and could reach my peak at Boise State."

Reed had been on the Boise State radar since last summer when he picked up an MVP Award following his performance at the Boise State camp.

"I won the WR MVP Award at the Boise State camp in 2011," he said. "Right now, I'm not real sure which position they like me at. We haven't talked about it much, but I'm guessing WR."

"I went down there for a Saturday practice about three weeks ago," said Reed. "Overall, I thought it was a well-run practice, real crisp, and they kept bouncing from drill to drill. There wasn't a lot of standing around and the coaches were really active out there. I noticed Coach Prince was getting into it with a lot of energy."

At 6'4 215 pounds, he acknowledged that there's a possibility he could develop into a TE.

"Idaho State offered me as a preferred walk-on at TE," he said. "I'd be open to playing TE or anything just to help the team."

In 2011, Reed and his teammates struggled through a 3-6 campaign. He says he enjoyed his HS career, but being a part of a "winning" atmosphere at Boise State will be a welcomed change.

"It'll be nice to be a part of that atmosphere at Boise State," he said. "We struggled just about every year at Timberline. There's actually been some talk that they might drop down to 4A since we're one of the smaller 5A schools."

"I really think talent in Idaho gets overlooked," said Reed. "We go up against tough football players all season. There's a lot of great players in Idaho that fly under the radar."

So, what does Jackson Reed bring to the gridiron?

"A lot of people have told me that I have really good hands," he said. "I'm a pretty slick and physical presence as well and I'm able to use my size in the red zone," he added.

As a senior, he had 31 receptions for 418 yards and 4 TDs.
