Paradise Valley HS QB Ryan Finley
(Phoenix, AZ) verbally committed to Boise State
back during the spring and continues to perform well as he and his teammates are currently 5-2 on the season. The difference between this year and last year? It's all about preparation.
"We're just more prepared for every game," he said. "Guys are taking film more seriously, more mature, and they know that how you practice through the week gets you the results on Friday. We're just much more fundamentally sound at each position this year."
"I've been playing well or at least well enough to win," he stated. "There's a few things I would like to fix. I usually make one or two bad decisions a game whether it's an INT, incomplete pass, or something like that. I need to work on that and get better at it. I need to make sure I'm doing everything right on each play."
"I spoke to Coach Pete, Coach Smith, and Coach Huff right after the Southern Miss
game," said Finley. "I actually went over to New Mexico
the week before for the game. Coach Pete was giving me a few pointers. He watches my film on Huddle, critiques me, and tells me what I need to improve on. It's nice to get that extra coaching. Coach Pete emphasizes pocket presence and moving around in the pocket. He wants me to continue to work on that and those one or two bad decisions per game."
He went on to say that he got to see firsthand just how complex the Bronco offense really is while watching the game at New Mexico.
"Obviously, it looks really complex just from a viewer's standpoint," he said. "It's probably about 5x more complex to actually run the offense. I can't wait to be a part of it. What I like is how balanced it is."
"I'm 100% committed."
At 5-2, there's still work to be done for Finley and his teammates. Their goal is a state championship and the talented QB believes they are definitely contenders at this point in the season.
"I definitely think we're a state contender," he said. "We have just as good of a chance as anybody. We just have to keep getting better week to week and get more game experience."
Through seven games, Finley has about 2,200 yards passing, 22 TDs, and 6 INTs.
