Adam Muema rushed for a career-high 255 yards and four touchdowns in leading
San Diego State
past
Wyoming
42-28 on Saturday.
Adam Dingwell added two touchdown passes as San Diego State secured at least a share of the Mountain West Conference title, which is its first Mountain West title, 19th overall and first since 1998.
The Aztecs (9-3, 7-1 Mountain West) also won their seventh consecutive game - their first single-season seven-game winning streak since 1981 - and posted their first nine-win regular season since 1977.
San Diego State gained 564 yards total offense, including 400 on the ground. The 400 yards rushing is the second most in Aztecs history after the 430 gained in 1991 against Pacific.
The team ends the regular season with a school Division I record 2,750 rushing yards, exceeding the 2,476 yards set by the 1991 team when Marshall Faulk was a freshman.
Wyoming (4-8, 3-5) saw its three-game win streak stopped.
The Cowboys were led by
Brett Smith who passed for 260 yards and two TDs, despite being sacked six times. Smith also rushed for 35 yards and two scores.
Robert Herron caught nine of Smith's passes for 187 yards and hauled in both TDs - one for 70 yards and the other 42 yards.
After falling behind Wyoming 14-7, the Aztecs scored touchdowns on five straight possessions. Muema scored three of the touchdowns on runs of 2, 34 and 82 yards.
Muema carried the ball 26 times, averaging 9.8 yards a carry. His 255 yards are the ninth most in Aztec history and most since 2001.
Wyoming led 28-21 at the half, in which both teams gained 270 yards total offense each, but the Aztec defense held the Cowboys scoreless in the second half, giving up just 112 totals yards and sacking Smith four times.
