Several media figures, including those in Boise, Idaho, have Boise State football Coach Chris Petersen leaving to become the head man at the University of Washington.
Coach Petersen met with UW Athletic Director Scott Woodward and his assistant last night at a Boise hotel for about an hour and a half. No announcement was made last night, and tweets by future recruits indicated they were surprised of the news.
Petersen was 92-12 at Boise State, including a 8-4 mark this season. He began his head coaching career with a Cinderella story in 2006, leading his team to the best record in the nation and a thrilling 43-42 win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.
Boise State Director of Athletics Mark Coyle has announced that assistant head coach Bob Gregory will be the interim head coach for Boise State's bowl season. Coyle also said that a national search for a new head football coach is underway.
