2017 Plano TX QB Is Already A Hot Commodity
"It's crazy. I never thought it would be me having all these letters coming in," Eyob Bekele said. "What I'm experiencing as a freshman most won't experience until they're juniors and seniors." The 6-foot-2, 145-pound prospect, beyond hearing from Boise State is also receiving interest from Washington, Washington State, a host of Big 12 schools and LSU. Bekele, just finishing his freshman year with the Plano East Panthers, raved about his trip to the Gem State's capital city. "The field is crazy, the blue surprised me and the school is very nice," Bekele said. "(They) treated me very well over there and gave me a tour of the locker rooms." Bekele made a Pacific Northwest swing, visiting Washington State and Washington as well. He was amazed by the mountains in Boise as his hometown of Plano is void of such features. The Broncos stood out. "The atmosphere was very nice, he said. "It was in the morning and the views were wonderful. I loved the mountains. That school has the best atmosphere." Boise State running back Jay Ajayi is also from Plano, but attended Frisco Liberty High School. He and Bekele have the same trainer and have even worked out together a number of times. "He's very solid," Bekele said of Ajayi. "I know he's doing big things in Boise." Bekele was expected to play as a freshman at Plano East, but a leg injury on the second day of practice limited his role. He knows that he must get stronger -- and add weight -- to stay healthy and maintain interest from colleges. "I want to get up to 160 (pounds) by the end of the summer," Bekele said. "Schools want me to be bigger and I need to be." And while it's still early in the recruiting process -- he is yet to receive an offer -- Bekele knows he wants to head west to play college football. "I want to go to UW, Boise or any California school," he said. "I want to get out of Texas." And he's ready to commit -- if the right offer comes. Bekele says he'll pledge to either Boise State or Washington, which ever school offers first. "From what I see, that's the case," he said. "Those are the best two schools in my eyes."
