Clayton Johnston's recruitment exploded as strong performances during spring ball and at various camps boosted his stock. Boise State, Wake Forest Illinois and Oregon State are among the newer schools vying for his services, and he expects more to come.
"It's definitely picked up," Johnston said. "I'm hearing a lot from coaches and I'm going to a bunch of camps as well.
He says USC and Oregon are both on the verge of offering based on his performance at the camp.
At this point, Johnston is still piecing together a summer schedule. He knows he will visit Wake Forest at the end of July and he plans on checking Arizona State, Oregon State and Colorado (all three have offered). Expecting to make a late decision after taking his official visits this fall, Johnston wants to check out The Blue somewhere along the way.
"(Boise State) is definitely a choice for me and I would like to get out there and see what it has to offer," he said. "I want to talk to the coaches more."
There is no dream school for Johnston, however. He grew up watching USC and UCLA, but he knows what he's looking for. Johnston will follow his heart and says his official visits will ultimately lead him to a decision.
"I want a good coaching staff and a coach that I can see myself playing for," he said. "I think when I go on my visits I'll know where I am needed and wanted. I'll just know."
