Some pundits will have you believe that the Western Athletic Conference is not a strong football conference, yet statistics show otherwise. In the most recent five-year period from 2001-2005, Boise State and Fresno State have the fourth most wins of any Division I-A conference's duo. Hawai'i joins the Broncos and Bulldogs as having the fourth most wins of any I-A conference's trio.

Boise State, Fresno State and Hawai'i have been three of the most successful college football teams over the last five years, so much so that they combine for some pretty impressive numbers. The Western Athletic Conference duo of Boise State and Fresno State have combined for 99 wins since 2001, which ranks as the fourth highest duo of any conference in the nation. Add in Hawai'i and the WAC also places fourth among all Division I-A conferences with 140 wins by that trio.

Included in the WAC's win total are victories over the Big 10, Pac-10, Big 12, Mountain West, the MAC, Conference USA, the SEC and the ACC.

The Big 12 Conference has the country's top duo, with Texas and Oklahoma combining for 111 wins during that time period. The SEC duo of Georgia and LSU has 103 combined wins for second. The Atlantic Coast Conference duo of Miami of Florida and Virginia Tech is third with 100 combined wins. The Pac-10 pair of USC and Oregon and the Big 10 combination of Ohio State and Iowa both have 95 wins to tie for fifth behind the WAC's Broncos and Bulldogs.
