Boise State women's tennis coach Mark Tichenor, who led the Lady Broncos to a second-place finish this past spring, has been named Bronco Coach of the Year in balloting by BroncoCountry posters.

Mark Tichenor--Bronco Coach of the Year!

Boise State is extremely fortunate to have so many outstanding coaches at one time. You can go up and down the line, and they are all excellent people and excellent coaches. So coming up with the Top Bronco Coach of the Year was not easy; in fact, even coming up with five nominees was a difficult decision.

This year's top five nominees were track coach Mike Maynard, men's tennis coach Greg Patton, women's basketball coach Gordy Presnell, wrestling coach Greg Randall and women's tennis coach Mark Tichenor. In summer balloting by BroncoCountry, Tichenor emerged from the pack to take home the title. Tichenor received 39.6% of the vote to 29.2% for second-place Greg Patton.

Tichenor's Broncos finished second in the Western Athletic Conference to #20 Fresno State, losing in the WAC Tournament Final to end their season at 22-4. It was Boise State's first-ever appearance in the WAC Championship game. When Tichenor took over the Bronco program in 1999, Boise State had just finished seventh in the Big West Tournament. Tichenor was named the 2006 Women’s Intercollegiate Central Region Coach of the Year.

Congratulations to Coach Tichenor and all the incredible coaches at Boise State!
