Boise State built a 17-3 lead after a two touchdown second quarter and then held on for a 17-10 win Saturday.
The Bronco's first touchdown came after a 84 yard drive and culminated in a TD run of 6 yards by QB Jared Zabransky. Their other touchdown came as the result of a 61 yard interception return by Quinton Jones.
Boise State had trouble moving the ball most of the day, thanks to a combination of environmental factors, (wind/snow/rain), and a very stout defense for the Cowboys that prior to today's game was ranked #4 in the NCAA's and had only allowed 1 offensive TD all season. Boise State ended the game with only 246 total yards, 6 fewer total yards than the home town Cowboys.
Despite their offensive struggles, Ian Johnson eclipsed the century mark again, going for 119 yards on 23 carries. Johnson was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week last week after producing 240 yards and five touchdowns against Oregon State last week.
Wyoming wasn't much more productive offensively, but the deciding factor in this game came in the form of 2 ill-timed interceptions. The first of which resulted in the margin of victory for Boise State, and the second, hauled in by Orlando Scandrick, put the game out of reach for Wyoming late.
Cowboy quarterback Jacob Doss ended the day 14-of-30 for 178 yards, but had those 2 interceptions and was sacked five times.
Bronco Senior MLB Korey Hall led the Bronco defense with 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Joining Hall in the sack party was Mike T. Williams, Andrew Browning(2) and Colt Brooks.
The loss drops Wyoming to 1-2 on the Season.
Next week Boise State welcomes fellow WAC conference member Hawaii to the Blue Turf. Hawaii has looked very good this early in teh season, dominating UNLV late Saturday night 42-13, with UNLV's scores coming late against many substitutions for the Warriors.
The game is slated for a 6pm MST start.
