The Boise State women's 4 x 100-meter relay team turned in the second fastest time in school history to highlight action at the Bronco Twilight track meet yesterday. The relay team qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in May, along with Bronco triple jumper Zacharias Arnos.

Boise State’s student athletes set two new NCAA regional qualifying marks yesterday in the Bronco Twilight meet in Bronco Stadium.

The women’s 4 x 400-meter relay team finished the race with a mark of 4:41.22, the second fastest time in school history and less than two tenths of a second off the Bronco record of 4:41.06 set in 1988.  Kayleen McDowell, Megan Olivetti, Paige Olivetti and Nerisha Phillip are headed to the NCAA Regionals!

Joining the four gals will be Zacharias Arnos, who turned in a 50-foot, 8.75-inch triple jump yesterday afternoon.  Coach Mike Maynard’s Broncos now have qualified for the Regionals in 16 events.

Megan Olivetti and Phillip also collected individual wins as Megan won both the 100 and 200-meters in 12.18 and 24.52, respectively.  Phillip captured the Twilight title in the 400 with a time of 55.55.

Senior Erik Whitsitt improved upon his personal best in the shot put with a throw of 61-9, the third best mark in Boise State history.  Eleni Kafourou recorded season bests in winning the long jump (20-2.50) and triple jump (42-8).

Other Bronco winners included Breanne Sande in the 1,500 (4:31.50), the 4 x 100-meter relay team (47.14), Annika Hjelm in the hammer (193-9) and Amber Tavares in the shot put (43-11.75) and discus (144-5).  Cody Eaton was victorious for the men at 800 meters (1:53.28), as was the 4 x 100-meter relay team (41.60), the 4 x 400-meter relay team (3:21.30), Brandon Christofferson in the 2000-meter steeplechase (6:14.40) and Scott Viafore in the javelin.  Viafore tossed the spear 231 feet to win that event in a final tune-up before the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Two more Broncos will be action tomorrow as Forest Braden and Becky Guyette compete in the 10,000 meters at the Cardinal Qualifier in Palo Alto, California.

After that, it’s on to the WAC Championships for the Bronco track team.  Fresno hosts the championships this year, which begin Wednesday, May 9th.
