The talented and deep Boise State tennis team destroyed Nevada on the Appleton Tennis Center courts yesterday afternoon 4-0. The Broncos advance to the WAC Championship this morning at 11 against Fresno State.

Coach Greg Patton’s Boise State men’s tennis team performed like a machine today in shutting out Nevada 4-0 at the Appleton Tennis Center.  With the win, the Broncos advanced to the Western Athletic Conference Championship for the third consecutive year.  The Broncos meet #72 Fresno State this morning at 11 at the Appleton Center.  The Bulldogs put away Hawai’i 4-0 earlier this morning.

Coach Patton shuffled his lineup a bit today, teaming brothers Luke and Clancy Shields at No. 1 doubles.  It was the first time the pair had played together since the All-American tournament in October.  They played solid tennis in downing the talented Laurent Garcin and Guillaume Tonelli of Nevada, 8-4.  Steve Robertson and Piotr Dilaj clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win over Benjamin David and Guerin Smith.

Patton rested Clancy at No. 2 singles, giving the huge crowd at Appleton a chance to see Kean Feeder.  Feeder justified the excitement about him with an impressive 6-4, 6-1 win over Tonelli.  Brent Werbeck became the seventh member of the team to reach 20 singles victories on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Arzhang Derakhshani.

Eric Roberson then clinched the match at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Eldar Dzhafarov.  Luke Shields was just about to win his match when word came that Roberson had clinched it.  Shields was ahead 6-2, 6-6 when the match was called.  Robertson also led 6-3, 3-2 and Blake Boswell was out in front 6-3, 3-3 at the conclusion of the match.

Boise State is now 28-5 on the season and 19-0 at home.
