The journey is now complete for multi-talented Legedu Naanee. Naanee (6-2, 228) was drafted today by the
San Diego Chargers in the fifth round of the National Football League
Draft. Naanee joins teammate Gerald Alexander, who was drafted yesterday in the second round by the Detroit Lions.
Recruited by Boise
State as a quarterback, Naanee’s
amazing physical ability allowed him the possibility of playing any one of
several positions on the field. Midway
through his sophomore season, Naanee began seeing action at tight end and wide
receiver. Legedu was honored as Scout
Team Player of the Year his first two seasons at Boise
State. Naanee set quarterback weight room records in
the back squat (520 pounds), hang clean (356), power clean (327) and bench
press (305) and set another mark for his 36-inch vertical leap.
Naanee made the transition towards the receiving end of the
football easily, being named to the All-Western Athletic Conference first team
as a senior. Naanee led the versatile
Bronco attack with 34 catches and six touchdowns and finished second with 522
receiving yards. He averaged 15.4 yards
per catch and also rushed seven times for 90 yards.
As a junior, Naanee tied for second with 34 catches for 483
yards and a team-leading six touchdown catches.
Way to go Legedu—we’re proud of you!
