Bart's Blog: I’m being mum…

I am not saying anything about a sensitive piece of information clouding this week’s game against New Mexico State. I am not listening either. Nor answer questions like “Who is playing who is not?” and “Do I care or do I not?” I am being completely mum and deaf about it. Mumme –pronounced ‘mumm-y’ – is being pretty mum about those questions too...

Of course I wouldn’t give the media an inkling of information either. When your team and its program has come up short every time they compete against a Boise State squad having a bad attitude about it may help your personal state of mind. It is just not helping your public status and fan support around the WAC. I mean, let’s give credit where credit is due. We are good and have your number, sorry. I am sure you own somebody too.

I always thought the best way to handle the media in regards to your team and the opponents was to travel above the line. In other words, be positive. Houston Nutt always had a saying, “Kill ‘em with kindness.” All thoughts and actions sent out to the world work like vacations, you always come back but you have more junk in your luggage than you started with. So don’t cross the line negatively. The positive route always starts and ends better. Of course an even better route would be to say the same, boring statements that every coach says and let the pads do the talking. Wait… that might not work either, maybe just stick with your seemingly bad attitude about BSU. On a positive note, at least you will keep selling tickets for the games up here.

So I am not going to talk about the fact that New Mexico State has never beaten a Boise State team. I am not going to mention that when they make the trip up here they forget to bring their skills. And of course I am not going bring up the fact that every game up here has turned into a boat race– throttled. That is too positive for us and too negative toward them. Plus, it talks about the past and who wants to discuss that? It is over and done with so I will talk about how NMSU has a good quarterback that may or may not play, for their sake I hope he does, and that the passing offense is pretty darn good. I just hope it shows up too.

So I am not going to pay attention. Let history most likely repeat itself and put my money down on “blue.” My game is craps but if I did throw down on football,  BSU to cover against NMSU on our turf is too good to pass up. And the only "mum" I am going to discuss is the German beer. Did you know that “mum” also means a particular potent beer of German origin? Now that definitely speaks to me.
