Recruiting Update: Keeping up w/ the Commits
Irvine Valley's La'Shard Anderson
Irvine Valley's La'Shard Anderson

Posted Jan 3, 2008

Boise State received two early JC commitments in this year's Basketball recruiting class, Irvine Valley's La'Shard Anderson, (Fr) and Antelope Valley's Robert Arnold (Soph). How have they been fairing this season? Well, from all accounts, it appears Boise State's newfound Basketball success should be in good hands next season...

Robert Arnold

On December 8th, Arnold sank a 16-foot footer with 5.2 seconds remaining to give the Marauders the Championship of the 38th Annual Wells Fargo Holiday Tournament.  Behind Arnold's game-high 28 points, the Mauraders won 61-59.  For his efforts, Arnold was named MVP of the Tournament.  Just a month earlier, he was named to another All-Tournament team, this one the Ventura JC Tournament held November 10th.

In his most recent game, (Jan 2) the 6'6 SF went for a double-double, scoring 30 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to lead the Mauraders, ranked as the No. 14 JC in California, over the ninth-ranked Rams of Fresno City CC in a nonconference game.  While a very good scoring night, that still doesn't match his high game of the young season, that being 35 points against Compton.

Arnold is currently averaging 19.2 points per game for Antelope Valley (14-6) while also averaging over 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Robert averaged 14.5 ppg and 4.3 rebounds last season, shooting 41% (175-427) from the floor and 34.7% (42-121) from the three-point range.  He fielded offers from the Broncos, as well as Utah State, Fresno State, Colorado State, UC-Santa Barbara, Oregon State, and Pepperdine, according to the Sports Information Department at AVCC.

La'Shard Anderson

La'Shard Anderson may be in his first season as a collegiate athlete, but he has already helped the Lasers to one of their best ever starts to a season. IVC has a record of 14-2, and won the American River Tournament in early December. IVC has been ranked as high as third in the state this year, and should climb even higher with their most recent victory.

La'Shard, for his part, has been named the All-Tourney team of the American River Tourney and leads the Lasers from his PG position, averaging nearly 10 points, 3.3 assists and 2.6 steals per contest.  He is shooting 43% from beyond the 3-point arch, and is shooting over 85% from the charity stripe.  He is the 3rd leading scorer for the Lasers while leading the team in both assists and steals.  He is also in the Top-5 for rebounds at 2.5 per game.

Adjusts his shot before hitting for two. Leaving the defender in the dust.
