The Boise State wrestling team served notice tonight that it will be a
force to contend with in the upcoming Pac-10 Championships. The Broncos captured nine of 10 matches to
destroy Oregon 34-3.
After
losing the first match of the evening at 125 pounds, Coach Greg Randall’s
rapidly-improving squad took nine in a row to advance their record to 6-1, 5-1
in the Pac-10. Junior Tyler Sherfey, #12
in the nation at 157 pounds, came through with a 15-2 major decision over Oregon’s Kyle Bounds. #17
Kurt Swartz was victorious at 165 pounds.
#9 Kirk Smith (184 pounds) and Cory Bender (141-lb. class) won their
matches by forfeit. Other winners were
Cory Fish at 133 pounds, Eli Hutchison at 149, Nate Lee at 174, Matt Casperson
t 197 and heavyweight Nick Smith.
Oregon drops to 9-8 and 0-5 in the league with the loss.
Boise State hosts Oregon State Sunday afternoon at 1 in Bronco Gym.
