Three teams from the Pac-10 Conference highlight the competition for the talented Boise State track team at the Blue & Orange Classic today in Nampa. Action gets underway at 9 this morning.

The Boise State track team will host the Blue and Orange Classic today at the Idaho Sports Center in Nampa.

Teams from Arizona, California, Stanford, UT-San Antonio, Concordia (OR), Whitworth, Northwest Nazarene, Eastern Oregon, Cal State-Stanislaus and Utah Valley are slated to take on the Broncos.

“The ability to bring in teams like Arizona, Stanford, California, etc., week in and week out gives our student-athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the best intercollegiate track and field teams in the country,” head coach Mike Maynard said. “The opportunity to provide this level of competition for our student-athletes, the community and the fans is very gratifying.”

Three Broncos earned NCAA provisional qualifying standards out of the gate in last weekend’s opening meet and several more could join that trio today.  Ryan Grinnell, competing in his first college meet, soared 7-feet, six inches in the high jump and 51-feet, 3.25 inches in the triple jump to earn passes to the NCAA Championships.  Two stars from last season joined Grinnell—Simon Wardhaugh and Eleni Kafourou.  Wardhaugh heaved the 35-pound weight 69-feet, 5.5 inches.

Zacharias Arnos, who qualified for the nationals last season in the triple jump, will look to beat his personal best of 51-4.5, which he set last year at the NCAA West Region Championships.

Field events begin at 9:00 a.m. this morning with the women’s high jump, while the track events begin at 11:30.
