Some schools boast great football programs. Others have fantastic basketball teams. It's difficult to generate two top-quality programs at the same time but the Broncos are tied for 11th place in the nation for the best combined football-basketball record. | |||

Since the basketball season contains over twice as many games, emphasis is on a good basketball team, but to be near the top, a school must be good at both sports. Case in point: Duke,
which is 16-1 in basketball, has a bad football team at 1-11, making it hard
for the Blue Devils to look good in combined football-basketball records. LSU, which won the hypothetical national
championship in football, is just 7-12 in basketball, making the Tigers tied
for 61st in the country. Other WAC schools in the ranks are Oh how the mighty have fallen. Traditional power 43 of the 120 Division I programs have winning records in both football and basketball. They are: Air Force, Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Boise State, Boston College, BYU, California, Clemson, Connecticut, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Houston, Indiana, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A & M, Texas Tech, Tulsa, USC, Utah, UCF, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Western Kentucky and Wisconsin. Meanwhile, 18 schools unfortunately have losing records in
both sports including one ( Here are the current combined football-basketball rankings (as of January 27): 1. 2. 3. 3. 5. BYU (11-2, 15-5 = 26-7) 5. 5. 8. 9. 9. 11. 11. 11.
