Boise State Makes All-Time Top Four Plays

Liberty marches on. Boise State's famous Statue of Liberty play that gave them a thrilling 43-42 victory over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl defeated the California-Stanford play in voting by fans across the nation yesterday. Boise State's play is now in the all-time top four.

The Statue of Liberty play that won the 2007 Fiesta Bowl for Boise State over Oklahoma is now among the top four plays of all-time.  In voting conducted by ESPN to determine the “Greatest Highlight”, the Statue of Liberty play went up against the famous Cal-Stanford play in the all-time quarterfinals and garnered 56 percent of the vote to advance.

The Greatest Highlight with Chris Berman is a chance for voters to help determine the all-time best highlight in a tournament-style setting. The field has been narrowed down from 100 candidates. These finalists have been seeded in a highlight bracket. From this point on, it's win or go home for each highlight, as your votes will help determine which highlight advances to claim the crown of the best of all time.

Boise State’s Statue of Liberty play will go up against Doug Flutie’s “Hail Mary” pass that defeated Miami of Florida in a 1984 regular season game.  The other plays battling in the all-time quarterfinals are the Kirk Gibson home run for the Los Angeles Dodgers that won the 1988 World Series, Mike Eruzione’s goal that was the game-winner in the historic United States hockey upset of the Soviet Union in 1980, Willie Mays’ over-the-shoulder catch in the 1954 World Series and Franco Harris’ “Immaculate Reception” in the 1972 National Football League playoffs that enabled the Pittsburgh Steelers to defeat the Oakland Raiders.

Fans can vote for the Boise State Statue of Liberty Play in the all-time semifinals this Sunday, February 24^th.
