The Boise State women’s basketball team
demolished Idaho 74-40 last night in Taco Bell Arena for their 11th
consecutive victory. The Lady Broncos
opened with a 27-6 run and were never headed as they kept pace with Fresno State in the tight race for first place
in the Western Athletic Conference.
Boise State won its 14th
straight home game and advanced their record to 11-2 in the WAC and 19-6
overall. The Broncos are just one win
shy of attaining their second consecutive 20-win season. With a minimum of four more games, Boise State is also one win away from gaining access in the “10-20-20 Club” for the
first time in school history. The 10-20-20 Club requires 10 regular season wins in football, 20
regular season wins in men’s basketball and 20 regular season wins in women’s
basketball. Conference playoffs,
championships, bowl games and national tournament games do not count. The 10-20-20 Club has been achieved just 26
times by 19 schools since 1980.
The Bronco defense
forced 26 Vandal turnovers in running up a 32-4 advantage in points off
turnovers and held the Moscow school to just 31.5 percent
shooting. Boise State controlled the boards by a
44-33 count.
Jessica Thompson led a
balanced attack for Coach Gordy Presnell’s team with 13 points and added eight
rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Guard Tasha Harris had 12 points while
sophomore center Ja’Lara Walker recorded her second straight double-double with
10 points and 10 rebounds. Jamia Malone
contributed 10 points while Jackie Lee and Jenna Galassi chipped in nine each.
Vandal standout Katie Madison led Idaho with 11 points, six rebounds,
two blocks, and two steals. Idaho fell to 2-23 and 1-12 in the
WAC with the loss.
Boise State hosts San Jose State next Thursday before their
Senior Night game against Hawai’i next Saturday. Both games tip off at 7
p.m. in
Taco Bell Arena.
