To the untrained, a seventh place finish may not seem like a great achievement, but when a second-year program rapidly improves with nearly every student-athlete posting career bests, it's noteworthy. The Boise State swimming team mustered enough points to edge out San Diego for seventh at the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships, and were not far behind sixth-place Idaho.

Boise State’s second-year swimming and diving team improved upon their debut season with a seventh place finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championships which concluded yesterday in San Antonio.  Head Coach Kristin Hill’s team advanced 13 Broncos into the finals yesterday, enabling Boise State to hold off San Diego and earn two points in the WAC Commissioner’s Cup competition.

Nevada captured the title with a school-record 725.5 points followed by Northern Arizona with 605. Hawai‘i was third with 574.5, while San Jose State placed fourth with 480.5. New Mexico State finished fifth with 460.5 followed by Idaho (305), Boise State (243) and San Diego (241).

Freshman Allison Hall led the way for Boise State with a fourth-place  finish in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:04.39. Rachael Meisner came in fifth in the 1650-meter freestyle race.  Natalie Rohling won the C finals by knocking 37 seconds off her previous best to rank eighth overall and Katelyn LoFland finished 16th with a time of 17:44.47.  Denise Green won the B final of the 200-meter breastsroke with a season best 2:05.49 to capture vital points for Boise State.  Erin Stotts was second in the C finals of the 200-meter breaststroke while freshman Johanna Wubbena finished second in the C finals of the 100-meter freestyle

“This was a great end to our conference championships and our second season of competition,” said head coach Kristin Hill. “Our mile was the top scoring individual event this weekend and we are really proud of Rachael, Nathalie, and Katelyn.”
