Getting Back On The Field

Tesoro HS LB John Michael Davis (Las Flores, CA) was recently nursing a dislocated elbow that he suffered early in the season. He has since worked his way back to nearly full strength and was able to get back on the field last week against El Dorado. Davis was in Boise for the Bowling Green game and spoke to BroncoCountry about his visit and his expectations for the remainder of his senior season

Tesoro HS LB John Michael Davis (Las Flores, CA) was just recently in Boise for his official visit. It certainly looks to be another victory for the coaching staff in terms of satisfying the current commits. "The visit was awesome," he said. "It was a lot of fun."

Davis (6'1, 221, 4.5) made the trip along with his dad and both came away very pleased with what they saw. "My dad loved the trip," he said. "We took a tour of campus and met with the coaches at the football office." John Michael and his dad were able to sit down and speak with Chris Petersen. "Coach Pete was telling us how excited he is about me and he was laying out the plans for when I come up in the summer." Will Davis redshirt or play as a freshman? "We'll see when I come up during the summer," he said. "I'll be fine with redshirting if the coaches think that is best."

The current Bronco commitments appear to be a special group as a bond appears to be forming. "Me, Will (Shamburger), Malcolm (Johnson), Trevor (Peterson), and the other recruits went to the team dinner," he said. "It was great. We went through the team walkthrough for the offense and defense as well."

Allen Mooney was excited to meet John Michael and the two recently have started texting back and forth. "Allen is cool," he said. "We text each other a good bit. It's mostly on the weekends." It's certainly uplifting to see that an early friendship is being formed by two players that will be the anchor of the Bronco defense over the next four years. Continuity at the LB position is very important and that's evident each time you watch a game of football on any level.

John Michael was amazed at the gameday atmosphere at Bronco Stadium. "It was an awesome atmosphere," he said. "The stadium was so loud. It was louder than the Rose Bowl." The citizens of Boise love their Broncos and Davis was able to see that firsthand. "I like the city," he said. "It seemed like everyone was at the game. There were RVs all over the parking lot." John Michael's dad felt the same way. "My dad mentioned that he saw a parade go through the town. That was cool too."

Davis has been following the Broncos closely this season. "I watched the Louisiana Tech game," he said. "I like the trick plays. Everyone played hard and had fun." He came away impressed with his future teammates on defense as well. "The defense was real good," he said. "The LBs played well and the DBs were awesome. They all hit and that goal line stand was great," he added.

We've been trying to gauge just what kind of impact that win at Oregon had on the Bronco football program. It appears to be a program changing win at this point based on the opinions of the current commits and prospects considering Boise State. "That win at Oregon was crazy," he said. "I was looking at it on the internet. That shows they can play with anyone," he added. It was indeed a program changing win in the eyes of John Michael Davis. "I think it was a program changing win," he said. "It shows the win against Oklahoma wasn't a fluke."

John Michael's season got off to a rough start as he dislocated his elbow early in the season. "I'm about 90% healed," he said. I was able to play last week against El Dorado," he added. Davis and his teammates have gotten off to an excellent start. "We're 5-0," he said. "We won 26-6 against El Dorado last week." John Michael and his teammates have yet to be challenged this season. That will all change this week. "We play Mission Viejo this week, " he said. "They are undefeated too." Davis feels his team will be up to the challenge. "We have to play hard," he said. "They have some good WRs that we have to shutdown. Their QB is good too," he added. Allan Bridgford is the QB he is referring to. He is currently a Cal commit.

Davis is just one of those players that loves to be on the field. "It was great to get back on the field," he said. "I've been injured since game one. It was terrible to have to sit and watch," he added.

The Boise State coaching staff certainly appears to have yet another winner when it comes to John Michael Davis. He has the attitude and mindset that will make him a perfect fit in Boise.

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on John Michael Davis throughout his senior season.
