Doug Scott has always been a hard worker.
He constantly strived to get better and thanks to outstanding coaching at
Boise
State
, he developed into the type of player he wanted to be.
When he graduated in 1979, Scott set the school record with
325 career tackles. He was still #2
in 1981 and #3 in 1984 and is still 11th in school history.
He was Honorable Mention All-American in 1978 and All-Big Sky Conference,
Big Sky Defensive Most Valuable Player and named All-American his senior year by
the Associated Press.
Montreal
of the Canadian Football League had been eyeing him all along and that accolade
was all the proof they needed. Scott
was invited to the Alouette training camp in 1980.
Joe Galat, who was general manager off
Montreal
in 1980, liked what he saw. “Doug
had tremendous credentials coming out of
Boise
State
and he showed he was a hell of a player with us right away.” Galat and the Alouettes used their first round selection to draft Scott in the 1981 CFL Draft.
Scott was an impact player almost immediately, becoming an
All-Star in his second season. An
exhibition injury wiped out the entire 1983 season, but Scott came back to
garner All-Star status again in 1984 and 1985.
An injury to the other knee kept him out in 1986 and Doug retired prior
to the 1987 season.
Following football, Scott’s great work ethic continued to
pay off. He was successful at Zimcor
selling industrial real estate and was a stock broker.
Then, Scott joined his brother-in-law, Jean Aucoin, who was starting an
electronics business, as a partner. The
company bought merchandise from
New York
and sold it to stores in
Montreal
. That small company is now known as
Sonic Services, Inc. and handles $30 million in business each year.
They are
Canada
’s leader in refurbishing of the latest technologies in consumer electronics.
Sonic owns and operates its own fully vertically integrated refurbishing
facility in
St. Laurent
,
Quebec
.
Doug is a member of the Alouette Alumni Executive
Committee. He is also a former
president of the Beaconsfield Golf Club. He
and his wife, Kim, and daughters
Savannah
and Rochelle live near the course.
