After their second bye week in
October, the San Jose State Spartans are preparing for their first away game
outside the state of
California
as
they travel to
Boise
to
face the undefeated Broncos.
The Broncos are 9-0 all time against
the Spartans, with last year's meeting ending in a 33-16 Bronco victory in
San Jose
. The
Spartans look to end that losing streak on Halloween day in
Boise
,
Idaho
as
well as put the Bronco's Bowl Championship Series dreams to rest.
San
Jose
State
currently owns the eighth-place slot in the Western Athletic Conference
standings with a 0-2 conference record (1-5 overall). Fifth-year head
Coach Dick Tomey, who is 24-30 overall with the team, is looking for his
first-ever win against #7
Boise
State
. Tomey
guided San Jose State to their best season since joining the WAC back in 2006,
finishing the season 9-4 with a win in the New Mexico Bowl, ending the team's
16-year bowl drought. Not to mention, the veteran coach is in the Top
10 for coaching victories in both the WAC and Pac-10, as well as fourth overall
in victories by active coaches with 182 total wins.
During his 32-year coaching career,
Tomey has served as head coach at
Hawaii
and
Arizona
, as
well as a defensive assistant coach for the
San
Francisco
49'ers and assistant head coach
with the
University
of
Texas
. He
was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year during his first season at
Arizona
and
led the Longhorn defense to their first-ever Rose Bowl victory.
This matchup will be
San
Jose
State
's
third Top 25 opponent of the year after losing to both
Utah
and
USC earlier in the season. As of October 24th, the Spartans are the
only Football Bowl Subdivision team to score on every single possession when in
the red-zone (13-for-13). On defense, they are the only team with two
players ranked in the top 28 nationally for forcing fumbles. Tanner
Burns and Devin Newsome both have four in six games. The team has
recovered at least one fumble in every game this year, and has a streak of seven
dating back to last season.

Spartan Players to Watch:
- Lamon Muldrow, Jr. RB, leads the team in
rushing yards (308), rushing attempts (56), rushing touchdowns (2), and no
fumbles.
- Ronnie Castillo, Sr. C, has 27
consecutive starts and resides on the Rimington Trophy Watch List.

, is one of the WAC's top pass rushers and
currently has 37 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 QB hurries, and 3 fumble recoveries.
