Freshmen Kevin Rosaaen and Shannon Potter led their Bronco teams at the WAC Cross Country Championships yesterday in Reno. The Boise State men were third while the women took sixth.

The future is bright for Bronco cross country.

Two freshmen, Kevin Rosaaen and Shannon Porter, led the Boise State men and women yesterday at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Reno .  The Bronco men captured third place while the women were sixth.

Rosaaen earned WAC Freshman of the Year in helping his team garner third place while Porter lead her teammates across the finish line as well.  Rosaaen finished fifth overall in 26 minutes 25.5 seconds and was named to the WAC First Team.  Junior Sawyer Bosch was 11th (26:48.0) and another freshman, Jeff Howard, took 14th (27:4.1).  Both Bosch and Howard were named to the WAC’s Second Team. 

Juniors Kevin Higgs and Scott Foley were 20th and 21st, respectively for Boise State .

Potter ran a superb race in crossing the finish line in 19 minutes, 38.5 seconds to take sixth.  Porter earned All-WAC.  Freshman Piper Delaney was 33rd while sophomore Katherine Gallagher was 37th.

Utah State junior Brian McKenna won the eight-kilometer race in 26 minutes, 0.1 seconds and was named WAC Athlete of the Year.  The Aggies won the men’s championship with 25 points while Fresno State had 67 to get second, just edging out Boise State ’s 69. 

New Mexico State ’s Courtney Schultz won the women’s 5-K in 19 minutes, 11.4 seconds and was honored with WAC Athlete and Freshman of the Year awards.  New Mexico State had 29 points to dominate the women’s championship.  Utah State was second with 70 points.

The cross country title was the first of the school year and gives Utah State the early lead in the WAC Commissioner’s Cup.
