Coach
Steve Lucas’s
Boise
State
soccer team has done it
again.
The
Broncos enter the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Tournament as one of the
hottest teams by virtue of three consecutive wins and a 1-0 win yesterday
afternoon in
Boise
over front-runner
San Jose
State
.
Freshman
Erica Parks booted the game-winner shortly before halftime as
Boise
State
took advantage of a fast
break opportunity.
Boise
State
earned the #3 seed in the
tournament which begins Thursday in
Boise
.
The
Bronco women were the aggressors throughout, outshooting San Jose State 26-7 and
placing 10 shots on goal to just three for the Spartans.
Boise
State
would have had a bigger
lead at the half but shots by Lauren Hickok and Molly Hill hit the post instead.
Bronco keeper Jennifer Burns ignited the fast break in the 43rd
minute when she boomed a deep downfield kick.
Chelsea Robinson smartly headed the pass forward to a wide open Parks,
who brought the Spartan keeper out into the penalty box and then shot the ball
into an open net for her sixth goal of the season.
The freshman from
Nampa
is now tied for the team
scoring lead.
Boise
State
did not rest on their lead
but rather continued to attack in the second half.
They raised havoc in the Spartan end with 13 shots but the talented
San Jose
State
defense was there to
assist their keeper. Shannon Saxton
took seven shots in the match and four were headed for the goal only to be
denied by a Spartan defender.
Burns recorded three saves on Senior Day as the keeper from
Capital
High School
got the shutout,
Boise
State
’s seventh of the year.
Boise
State
advances to
10-6-4
on the year and 5-3 in WAC play.
It is the first time the Broncos have won 10 or more games in two
consecutive seasons.
San Jose
State
lost for the first time in
15 matches and falls to
11-5-4
and
5-1-2
in conference play.
