With Boise State's 63-25 win over Idaho and Oklahoma's victory over Texas A
& M, the Broncos and Sooners tied Nebraska for the fourth most wins in a
decade in college football history.
Oklahoma began the season with 102 wins while Boise State had 98. But
the Broncos have caught them with an unbeaten 10-0 season to date, while
Oklahoma has won six of ten. Oklahoma is currently 108-23 this decade
while Boise State is 108-17. The famous Nebraska teams of the 1990's were
108-16-1.
Florida State (also in the 1990's) holds the modern record of 109 wins with
13 losses and a tie. Two early college football teams from the 1890's,
Pennsylvania (124 wins) and Yale (116 wins) hold the #1 and #2 spots.
Boise State began the decade with a 10-2 season, and were 8-4 in 2001 with a
victory over #8 Fresno State. The Broncos were 12-1 and 13-1, respectively
in 2002 and 2003, and began their streak of three unbeaten seasons in five years
with an 11-0 regular season in 2004. Boise State lost to #7 Louisville in
the 2004 Liberty Bowl. The Broncos were 9-4 in Coach Dan Hawkins' last
year but capped a perfect 13-0 season in 2006 with a Fiesta Bowl win over
Oklahoma. Boise State finished 10-3 in 2007 and 12-1 last season.
The Broncos have a minimum of three games remaining while Oklahoma has two
plus a likely bowl game. If Boise State is fortunate enough to win their
remaining games plus be invited to a bowl game that they can win, the Broncos
would hold the modern record by themselves.
