Boise State Now One Of Elite Group Of Eight

Boise State's climb up the rungs of history has been well chronicled on this web site. With it's 63-25 win over Idaho Saturday, the Broncos have achieved their most impressive feat to date. Boise State has now won 10 games in eight years of the decade and is now one of eight schools that has accomplished that feat since college football began in 1869.

With Boise State’s 63-25 win over Idaho yesterday, the Broncos reached their 10^th win of the season without a loss. It was the 9^th time in the last 11 years that Boise State has achieved the feat. In this decade, Boise State hit the mark in eight of the ten years.

This is significant because Boise State has just become the eighth school in college football history to reach 10 or more wins in eight years of a decade.   Florida State (90's), Oklahoma (1970’s), Nebraska (80’s) and Oklahoma and Texas (this decade) are the only other teams to do it in the modern era (since 1930). Harvard , Pennsylvania and Princeton are the only others to accomplish the feat. Oklahoma, as mentioned above, is the only school to achieve the feat twice.  USC is the only other school that can join the Broncos in this elite group this season.

It may be more notable to list some of the schools that have never done what Boise State is in fact doing right now. Michigan is one that stands out. USC has never put up the astounding numbers of the Broncos in a decade. Ohio State and Notre Dame have never done it. Nor has Tennessee, Florida or Miami of Florida just to mention a few.

Florida State is the only team in history to win 10 or more games in each year of a decade--the Seminoles did that in the 90's. Only four times in history has a school won ten or more games in nine seasons of a decade.  Texas became the second school to do that since the 1890's win a win over Baylor this past weekend.
