One of the top two scoring and rebounding duos in the nation
scored 44 points and had 23 rebounds between them tonight as Boise
State blew away Cal State-Bakersfield
81-56 in Taco Bell Arena. Reggie Larry
had 23 points and 10 rebounds while Matt Nelson poured in 21 points and led the
Broncos with 13 rebounds as Coach Greg Graham’s team won its 20th
game of the season.
The pair could not have been better inside for Boise
State—Larry was 11 of 14 from the
field while Nelson was 8 of 10 and also hit 5 of 7 free throws. The win enabled Boise
State to become just the 15th
school since 1980 to make the 10-20 Club twice.
The Bronco football team won 10 regular-season games last fall while the
basketball Broncos are now 20-6 on the season.
Boise State
also accomplished the feat in the 2003-04 school year.
Point guard Anthony Thomas had a great game tonight as well
for the Broncos, scoring seven points, dishing out eight assists and getting
two steals. Thomas is now just eight
assists behind the 118 that Steve Connor recorded in the 1977-78 season for 10th
place all-time. He also is nine steals
short of 10th place on that list.
Boise State
as a team recorded an amazing 22 assists on 34 field goals tonight to give them
479 this season. That puts the 2007-08
Broncos into fifth all-time, passing both the 1976-77 and 1973-74 Boise
State teams in the process.
With his 11 field goals tonight, Larry passed both Arnell
Jones (1987-88) and Steve Connor (1975-76) and is tied with Eric Bailey for
ninth on the Bronco all-time field goals in a season list with 188. With a minimum of five games remaining, Larry
can break into the all-time top five with 23 more field goals.
Larry and Nelson now have 899 points between them this
season and shot up from 20th to tie for 11th on the
all-time Bronco list with Abe Jackson and Booker Nabors, who finished with 899
points in 2001-02. Larry and Nelson have
a realistic chance of breaking the school record of 1,021 with a minimum of
five games remaining. Larry, Nelson and
Tyler Tiedeman now have 1,267 points to tie with the 1986-87 trio of Arnell
Jones, Chris Childs and Jeff Kelly.
Larry, Nelson and Tiedeman now need just 85 points between them in five
games to break that school record.
With 20 wins on the season, Boise
State can now concentrate on Siena
in the annual ESPN Bracket Buster game.
Tipoff is at 7 Saturday night in Taco Bell Arena.
