If Boise State
is to reach the promised land at the end of the 2008 football season, they’ll
have to do it on the road. The Broncos
play no less than four of its next five games away from home. No other team currently in the Top 15 has
that kind of a schedule.
Coach Chris Petersen’s team takes on surging San
Jose State tonight
at 7 in a nationally-televised game on ESPN2.
Next week, the Broncos visit New Mexico
State, the team that gave them a
scare in their Fiesta Bowl season. Boise
State does get a home game against Utah
State, but follow that up with road
tilts at Idaho and Nevada. The Broncos close out the 2008 campaign with
a match against rival Fresno State
in Bronco Stadium.
If Boise State’s
schedule is the most unfavorable of the group, #13 LSU has the easiest path—the
Tigers have five of six remaining games at home. #4 Oklahoma,
#6 Oklahoma State
and #7 Georgia have three out of five games on the
road. #1 Texas,
#2 Alabama, #8 Texas
Tech have three home games in their final five regular season contests. #5 USC and #10 Florida
play half of their six remaining games on the road, while #3 Penn
State, #9 Ohio
State, #11 Utah
and #14 TCU play just two of four remaining games on the road.
Boise State
certainly has its work cut out for them.
If they can emerge victorious at the end of the season, they will
certainly deserve whatever rewards they get.
