At some point tonight, shortly after halftime, Boise State turned on the afterburners in putting on a dazzling display and defeating Fresno State 61-10 in a nationally-televised football game in Bronco Stadium.  As they have sometimes done this season, the Broncos had a slow start and went into the locker room 13-10.  Few teams in the country could score 48 points on Fresno State's defense in one half, but that's exactly what the explosive Broncos did in front of representatives from the Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl.

Boise State became the only team in America to go undefeated (12-0) in the regular season three times in the last five years, and there were several signs throughout the stadium that recognized that fact.  The Broncos were 11-0 in 2004 and 12-0 in 2006.

Jeremy Avery started the incredible display just three minutes into the third quarter with a lightning quick 43-yard dart through the middle of the Bulldog defense to make it 20-10 and the undefeated Broncos were beginning to roll. 

Ian Johnson burst outside for a 69-yard run of beauty, carrying a Bulldog defender the last 18 yards and followed that up with a short touchdown run to move within one TD of Marshall Faulk as the all-time rushing touchdown leader in the Western Athletic Conference.  Johnson later bulled over from the one and now Faulk and Johnson are tied for the record with 57 apiece.  Johnson carried the ball just 14 times but for 128 yards and two scores on the night.

Johnson passed Brock Forsey for second in the Bronco all-time rushing statistics with his 69-yard run but needed a superior finish to catch #1 Cedric Minter.  Even with his 128-yard effort tonight, Johnson is 317 yards shy of Minter.. 

Kyle Wilson returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown (his third touchdown this season) and the fourth longest in school history.  Wilson tied a school record with his third return all the way to the house.

Then TanyonBissell took a handoff on an end-around out of the shotgun and tossed a strike to a wide-open Julian Hawkins at the 10 and Hawkins coasted in to make it 34-10.

After senior Ellis Powers picked off Fresno quarterback Tom Brandstater, freshman Kellen Moore threw his second touchdown of the game, a 16-yard pass to tight end Tommy Gallarda.

It was Fresno State that started with a bang though.  Damion Owens stepped in front of Bush Hamdan's first pass and got a pick six for the Bulldogs.  Hamdan was tabbed the starter by Bronco head coach Chris Peterseon to honor the respected backup on Senior Day.  That would be Fresno's last highlight of the game as they were outscored 61-3 after that point.

Moore was 17 of 23 for 213 yards and two touchdowns. He completed all four of his passes on his first drive, including a 9-yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone to Childs in the first quarter.  Moore is now just one behind Tony Hilde for 6th on the Bronco season TD passes list. 

Childs finished with five receptions and passed Kipp Bedard, Ryan Ikebe, Billy Wingfield, Don Hutt, Eric Andrade, Mike Holton and Rodney smith for catches in a year.  Childs, who set the Bronco record last season with 82, now finds his 2008 achievement ranking 5th behind that total, Mike Wilson's 76 in 1992, Tim Gilligan's 67 in '03 and Hutt's 66 in 1971.  Childs also tied Lou Fanucchi for 10th all-time with his 17th career touchdown catch.

Brandstater was 23-for-36 with 212 yards passing for Fresno State (7-5), who will await word on their bowl game.
