Despite a ninth-place in the triple jump by Ryan Grinnell, Boise State's
track team finished 25th in the nation at the NCAA Track and Field Championships
in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Boise State scored 10 points to tie Oklahoma,
Oklahoma State, California and Rice for 25th. Texas A & M upset Oregon for the team title. Hammer thrower Simon
Wardhaugh and javelin specialist Pontus Thomee scored ten points between them to
give the Broncos their total.
Grinnell, the #4 seed in the triple jump, posted a mark of 52-feet, 6.75
inches to place ninth. He had jumped 53-feet, 9.75 inches just a few weeks
ago and would have taken fifth with that jump. Grinnell also placed 11th
in the high jump and did not qualify for the finals in the long jump.
